Unmasking Psychological Symptoms

November 20, 2011

Barbara Schildkrout

Barbara Schildkrout is a practicing psychiatrist, teacher, and writer. She is a Harvard Medical School, Clinical Instructor in Psychiatry at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, MA. Currently, she teaches Harvard medical and dental students as well as psychiatry residents in the Harvard Longwood Residency Program.

In her newly released book, Unmasking Psychological Symptoms, Dr. Schildkrout focuses on how discrete medical diseases can cause or contribute to a clinical picture that looks like a mental disorder.

She believes that it is an important public health challenge to decrease the time from symptoms onset to accurate diagnosis. She hopes that Unmasking Psychological Symptoms will help toward that goal by bringing alive for readers the real practice of clinical thinking and problem solving.
